“How did I get started in glass? It was just a natural progression from the things I loved in childhood. I grew up a skateboarder, and you see this really dynamic social thing happening in that community. Sure, skateboarding is an individual sport, but it’s social and you’re always with friends. Glass is really social too. It requires a lot of teamwork and I’ve always been attracted to that. It’s a community that I love.”
Ryan Blythe first started making his now-famous Duckies in 2002; they were a simplified version of full-sized mallards he made while studying in Italy. Initially, the Duckies were transparent, but it didn’t take too long for the first “classic yellow” Ducky to appear. Blythe’s work is whimsical and fun, and a great addition to any space and any home.
